The long trek out to our site.
The crew at work removing invasive Buckthorn to make way for further prairie restoration.
Bringing branches to add to the pile.
Smoke from the fire where the branches were being burned.
The area of prairie we are working to extend.
Although we were doing "restoration" I felt like a destructive force as I was told to cut down saplings to make way for prairie, and then use fire to burn the saplings, branches, and even trees. I wonder if it is our place to be "managers" of nature. It seems responsible guardians, as many indigenous were and are would be a more appropriate and ethical role.--Keeping ourselves in check rather than keeping nature in check.
